Next Step: Reuse Your Plastic
The next Green Tip toward decreasing plastic pollution is to reuse your plastic.
If you have to use plastic then it’s best to make sure you can REUSE it again (and again, and again!).
I remember watching my grandmother washing out her plastic baggies to use again, along with foil, and sometimes paper plates if they weren’t too soiled.
Everything in her household was always used again and again until it wore out. She came from the pre-plastic era when reusing everything was what you did even if it was not convenient. We need to return to this way of thinking and the sooner, the better!
The problem is reusing plastic bags, bottles and containers for storing food may not be the healthy thing to do. Here’s an article from the Sierra Club addressing this issue of reusing plastic food and drink containers.
So, the best option is to choose alternatives to plastic containers like glass with reusable lids for reusing when it comes to food. However, you can reuse your plastics in practical and artistic ways and here are some great ideas from RealSimple.com and BoredPanda.com:
